Racoon Season – Here are the do’s and don’ts!

This is the busiest time of year for raccoon removal. Spring is when mother raccoons nest and give birth to their pups. Unfortunately for home owners, these mother raccoons have most likely found their warmth and comfort indoors, which for you, could mean your home! Mother raccoons are in “nurture” mode, so they are scurrying and foraging for food all while making a mess of their surroundings. Raccoon pups are also a destructive bunch. When they leave their nests, they are loud and ruinous! Most of our removal calls come from home and business owners who have (unknowingly) been providing hospitality  in their attic and sheds. Raccoon pups, although very cute, are very scared and dangerous when approached by anyone aside from their mother. A mother and her brood are very protective of each other, so it would be in everyone’s best interest to call a professional if removal is needed. It is illegal, to remove a raccoon from your premises and place them outside of a  1km radius. Separating a mother from her brood is also very inhumane, and punishable by law. If at all possible, it is sometimes best to leave the mother to nurture and raise her pups for a short time until they’re ready to leave… Think of it as a short hotel stay… If this is not possible, please call us. We are experts in safe and humane raccoon removal. We care for the animals interest, and make sure to leave as little of a footprint behind for the homeowner as well.

Here is a picture of our first baby raccoons of the spring. “Momma” and babies were transferred to a better-suited living place. None of the animals were harmed and all are happy and thriving.

Below is a Facebook Post from Soper Creek Wildlife Rescue. These poor animals are thankfully okay now (from our understanding), but were left for dead by some very inconsiderate people. Thankfully, some hikers found these little guys before it was too late.
